WildAid Communications Campaign Highlighted in Recent US Senate Hearing on Poaching Crisis

On May 24th, the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations convened to discuss the mounting poaching crisis in Africa.  Moderated by Senator John Kerry, the committee brought together prominent experts in the field to shine a light on the widespread ivory and rhino horn trade.  WildAid’s unique approach to reduce demand for these products in Asia was cited as an “exemplary model”, critical to reversing the poaching epidemic.

New York Moves One Step Closer to Banning Shark Fins

In New York, a shark fin ban (A.7707a/S.6431) passed through the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee by a vote of 13-1 on Tuesday.

The bipartisan state legislation is sponsored by Assembly Members Alan Maisel (D-Brooklyn) and Grace Meng (D-Flushing) and Senator Mark Grisanti (R-Buffalo) in the Senate.

Port Moody Becomes First City in British Columbia to Ban Shark Fins

WildAid applauds the recent decision by the Port Moody, British Columbia City Council to ban the possession, trade, sale and distribution of shark fin products in the municipality. Port Moody is the first municipality in British Columbia to adopt such a prohibition.

Similar prohibitions have already been passed in the cities of Toronto, Brantford, Mississauga, Oakville, Newmarket, Pickering and London in Ontario.

Larry King, Jared Leto, Hayden Panettiere Among Stars at WildAid Gala

Hollywood joined forces with Silicon Valley on Friday evening to support wildlife conservation organization, WildAid, at their annual gala. Larry King, Hayden Panettiere, Jared Leto, Maggie Q, John Corbett, Kate Flannery, and Bo Derek were among the stars raising money for WildAid.
