Lord Ékomy Ndong

Gabonese hip-hop star and guardian of African culture, tradition and nature

Lord Ékomy Ndong, born Ékomy Ndong Mba Meyong, is one of the founding and leading figures of Gabonese hip hop. A cofounder in the early 1990s in Libreville of the group Movaizhaleine, alongside Maât Le Seigneur Lion, he quickly established himself as one of the most important artists of his generation and as a central pillar of the hip hop movement in Gabon.

An accomplished lyricist and a captivating presence on the Gabonese stage, he has developed a dense and conscious form of writing deeply rooted in African realities.  A committed Pan Africanist, he openly claims African cultures and traditions as the foundation of his work, particularly the mvett, the Fang epic art form that profoundly shapes his musicality and poetic expression. His work builds a bridge between tradition and modernity.

In October 2010, he collaborated with R. Kelly in Chicago on the One8 project and the track Hands Across The World. The proceeds from this initiative were used to support a primary school in Gabon’s Estuaire province.

More recently, Lord Ékomy Ndong has expanded his artistic exploration toward artificial intelligence and the creative use of digital technologies. He shares this knowledge through training programs for Gabonese youth, contributing to ushuring the new generation of Gabonese youth into our increasingly digitized world.

His commitment to  creating a modern Gabon based on national and African traditions is reflected in his work with WildAid as an ambassador for his country's forests and oceans.
