With China poised to play a defining role in the world’s climate future, WildAid and its partners are directly shaping the public discussion on energy transition in China. In April 2026, under the technical guidance of the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, WildAid launched The Answer Is Earth, a three-part documentary series in co-production with Warner Bros. Discovery. It follows WildAid Ambassador and A-list actor Zhang Linghe as he explores China’s renewable energy transition in his home province of Jiangsu. The series is exclusively streamed on BILIBILI.
The documentary successfully turned complex energy issues into stories that resonate with wider audiences. A month after its release, The Answer Is Earth has leapt beyond niche environmental audiences and earned a broad mainstream viewership, consistently reaching the #1 spot for documentaries and the #2 overall ranking on streaming service BILIBILI, which hosts over 300 million active monthly users, in the month since its launch.
“In this documentary, Linghe went deep into the frontline of energy transition, participated in real and vivid work practices, and brought the audience a public welfare initiative with both science and insight from a first-person perspective,” said Wang Ning, Vice President at Warner Bros. Discovery. “I believe Linghe’s original aspiration for public welfare, passion for exploration, and expectations for the future deserve to be seen and loved.”
Wang Ning spoke at the launch event for The Answer Is Earth, held on April 22, 2026, in Beijing. The event was live streamed by over 10 million people, the most viewers for a WildAid launch event to date. The online reception has been even stronger since the series’ release, with over 380 million views for the hashtag #凌探未来# (the film’s Chinese title) and over 1.2 billion online views for related topics.

Since its premiere, The Answer Is Earth has been featured on outdoor advertising spots, including LED screens in core business districts, subway and bus displays, and airport digital screens across nine cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Changsha, Chengdu, Wuxi, and Changzhou, reaching hundreds of millions of viewers, with additional advertising locations to be rolled out continuously.
“Climate action knows no borders but every country needs its own storytellers,” said WildAid’s Chief China Representative Chong Yu.
Zhang Linghe is uniquely suited to tell the specific story of China’s energy transition and Dual Carbon Goals. Before becoming one of China’s most recognizable young actors, Zhang Linghe studied electrical engineering in university which allowed him to engage the public naturally on what is often seen as a technical subject.
Note: The Answer Is Earth is currently only streaming in China. We are grateful for the tremendous response from Chinese audiences and will share any future viewing opportunities as they become available.
